ART / Advanced ART

Assisted reproductive therapy (ART) consists of a group of technologies, which assist infertile couples in conception and pregnancy. They encompass various procedures, ranging from the relatively simple Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) to other variants of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), commonly known as "test-tube technology". ART procedures can benefit both male factor and female factor infertility. In particular, it is often used when couples are facing: tubal factor infertility, ovulation problems, ejaculatory dysfunction, and an unexplained infertility. Nonetheless, those who choose to participate in ART procedures need to meet some specific criterion. In particular, women must have: a normal uterus, at least one accessible ovary and no signs of premature menopause.

When basic fertility treatments fail or when the reason for a couple's infertility is such that basics treatments are not appropriate, couples turn to advanced fertility treatments. Collectively advanced fertility treatments are known as Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART). The availability of ART has revolutionized the treatment of infertility, making many previously difficult or impossible infertility problems simple to overcome. Using the full range of ART, virtually all couples can successfully become pregnant. The infertility doctors at Reproductive Sciences Center work with each couple to find the most effective and cost-effective treatment for them.

Available Treatments

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine Insemination or IUI is often considered for couples whose infertility investigation has failed to detect a specific cause of infertility (about 10% of infertility problems remain unexplained even after complete and thorough medical evaluations), and who have been trying to conceive for at least two years.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a multi-step process in which eggs (Oocytes) are extracted from the woman's ovary (where the eggs are produced), fertilized by sperm in a laboratory and cultured into early embryos. A portion of these embryos may then be transferred into the woman's uterus and those not transferred may be cryo-preserved (frozen) for a transfer at a later time.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) ,the most successful technique in male infertility treatment, is often a choice when the male partner suffers from an abnormally low sperm count (less than 5 million) or poor quality sperms or high degree of abnormal sperms or 'azoospermia' where there is no sperm present in the semen.

Embryo Freezing

Embryo Freezing is the process of freezing embryos to preserve them over time. Frozen embryos are then successfully thawed and used in later cycles that can result in pregnancy.
